| Classes Hop over to Henson Robinson Zoo’s classroom! We use games, crafts, zoo walks, and animal visits to learn about animals! All classes require pre-registration and pre-payment at least 24 hours before the class. To register by phone, call the Education Curator at (217)585-1821 and pay using your credit card. To register by mail, complete the registration form [PDF, 63k] & send it with payment to: Henson Robinson Zoo Education Department, 1100 East Lake Shore Dr., Springfield, IL 62712. Once you register & pay, no refunds will be given. If you wish to withdraw a student from class, you must call the Education Curator at least 24 hours prior to class in order to receive a voucher for future classes or camps. ZooCamp is a chance for your 7-12 year old to have a wild time at the Zoo! ZooCamp is held from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesdays, Thursdays, & Fridays in June, July and August. Costs are $50 for Springfield Park District/Zoological Society members and $60 for non-residents.

Diving Into Oceans June 26th to 28th No scuba gear is necessary for this under-sea safari! We are going to use our imaginations to dive in and explore the animals of the world's oceans. Cute Critters July 3rd to 5th Be warned: The animals in this class are dangerously CUTE! Get ready to be totally "cuted out" as we learn about and even meet some of the animals on HRZoo's top 20 cute list. Digging Into Deserts July 17th to 19th Let's go to extremes! Extreme ecosystems that is. Find out how some amazing animals survive on of the harshest ecosystems on earth! Animal Mythbusters July 24th to 26th Does an opossum really sleep hanging by its tail? Does an ostrich actually stick its head in the sane when it's scared? Discover the difference between animal fact and animal fiction as we reveal the truth behind some of the animal world's biggest myth-teries! ZooCamp For Kids Ages 10 to 12 Years If I Ran The Zoo June 12th to 14th What would you do if YOU ran the zoo? See how the Henson Robinson Zoo makes a home for hundreds of animals as you try your hand a zookeeping and exhibit design! Friend or Foe? July 8th to 10th Predator vs. Prey! Parasite vs. Host! Meet the friends and foes of the animal world as we investigate some really radical animal relationships. Reptiles Rock July 31st to August 2nd Reptiles rule and mammals drool! Find out why these cold-blooded creatures are the coolest animals on earth. All classes are subject to change. Zoo Tot classes, held in our zoo classroom, are a chance for you and your child (ages 2 and up) to share a fun and educational experience at the zoo together! Each class includes stories, animal visits, cool crafts, games, and more! Fees per class for one adult and one child are $8.00 for Springfield Park District Residents or zoo members and $10.00 for Non-Residents and Non-Members. Costs are $5.00 per extra child enrolled. Due to space restrictions, you may not bring more than one grown-up per class. You may register for either the Tuesday, Wednesday OR the Thursday class. For 5-6 Year OldsDinosaur Discoveries June 29 All classes are subject to change.Take action...with Project H.O.W.L.! Students, ages 10-12, will create and help present enrichment items to enhance the zoo animals' lives and stimulate new behaviors. Project H.O.W.L. takes place in the zoo classroom and on zoo grounds on Saturdays from 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. Each Project class is $10.00 for Springfield Park District residents & zoo members & $12.00 for non-residents.

Are you between the ages of 13 and 17? Are you fascinated by animals? Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a zookeeper?If you answered "YES!" to these questions, then maybe you have what it takes to be a Junior Zookeeper!
This 8 class course for kids ages 13 to 17 meets on Saturdays and runs from Saturday, June 1 to Saturday, July 27, 2013. In each 9:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. Saturday session, Junior Zookeepers are challenged with hands on activities that allow them to learn about how Henson Robinson Zoo operates and how we care for the animals within the zoo. Some activities include:
- animal diet preparations
- habitat design
- daily animal care
- animal enrichment
- wildlife education, and more
In addition, once you complete the Junior Zookeeper course, you may have the opportunity to become a Junior Zookeeper Volunteer at the zoo!
This class is not an opportunity to play with the animals. There will be limited animal contact. However, Junior Zookeepers is a chance to get real zookeeper experience which involves all aspects of zoo keeping. This sometimes means hard work and getting dirty, but also includes many rewarding experiences.
The Junior Zookeeper program is $100.00 for Springfield Park District Residents & zoo members and $120.00 for non-residents.
